The Crown HER Edition was born from losing my grandmother to cancer on June 16th, 2025. Her strength, grace, and unconditional love inspired me to create something that honors women who carry the weight of this battle with courage. On August 24th 2025, her birthday, I began an annual tradition that will continue for the rest of my life. Every year on this day, I will release a music video and crown nine women who are fighting cancer, surviving cancer, or supporting loved ones through it. This initiative is a tribute to my grandmother’s legacy and to every queen who has faced this journey. The Crown HER Edition is a reminder that these women deserve to feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Each crown represents resilience, hope, and the divine power that lives inside every woman who refuses to give up. Through this project, I create a moment of honor, beauty, and recognition for women who often feel overlooked during their fight. The Crown HER Edition will continue every year on August 24th, expanding its reach, crowning new women, and keeping my grandmother’s legacy alive through love and community. Meet the 9 Queens

These are the nine women honored during the first annual Crown HER Edition, each crowned in memory of my grandmother and in recognition of their strength, resilience, and courage. Click any photo to read their individual story and experience the love, legacy, and purpose behind their crowning.

My name is Lashonda Hardy. I am currently 44 years old and I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2021 as of July 7 of 2025. I am three years cancer free.

Belinda Covington. I found my lump by accident when I got to close to a doorway entrance and I had to swipe my arm across my right breast. And the pain was horrible so I looked in the mirror and I saw a knot under my skin. And that Monday I made sure I called my PCP this all happened on Labor Day weekend of 2018. My PCP scheduled the appointment for mammogram and ultrasound which I get mammograms thoroughly every year. I did 12 rounds of intravenous chemo and 30 rounds of radiation. I did 6 months of oral chemo medication. The radiation was rough it burned me and opened my incision where I had lymph nodes removed. I still have tenderness in that area from all the radiation because it was so intense. But I'm a survivor.
Kimberly Anderson. Diagnosed in November 2020 with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ of the left breast. This would totally change my life. Being diagnosed with a life altering cancer at the height of a global pandemic did not make it any easier either. I went through scans, genetic testing, and 3 surgeries to rid my body of the cancer. I had a double mastectomy with implants in 2021; along with a hysterectomy later the same year to ease my mind of an additional gynecological cancer occurring. My mission has been to celebrate myself, my recovery, and my healing. But I also make it a priority to help those diagnosed after me. Always speaking to newly diagnosed cancer patients, advocating for cancer testing, and encouraging anyone affected by this horrible condition.
Sharon Bonds. Breast Cancer 2021. November Of This Year. It Will Be 4 Years. (Cancer Free)Don't Know What I Would Do With The Love And Support Of My Family. My Son Was There Every Step Of The Way. He Never Left His Mom's Side.
Ida Davis. Well my baby brother passed away with esophageal cancer went down to funeralize him in Mississippi after the funeral I was sitting alone at the repass crying and the holy Spirit spoke to me and told me to go get checked and I was like why am I getting checked I've had my physical already and I went on and didn't think about it anymore and holy Spirit came to me again and told me to get checked so I was obedient I got back home I went to my PCP she did a Pap came back up normal went to have a biopsy and next thing you know boom you have cancer so at that moment I didn't know what to feel but I wasn't afraid after I was done talking to the doctor I got home one in my bedroom and closed the door late flat on my face and had a conversation with the Lord I can't say how long I was down there but it was a while after I was finished praying and talking to the Lord I had such peace come over me I didn't worry about it I didn't think about it I didn't tell my family I didn't tell the church it was a journey that the Lord and I had to go through alone I was diagnosed August 5th 2022 I had a full hysterectomy September 6th 2022 I had radiation I finished the radiation November 15th 2022 and as a stand now I'm 2 years 8 months cancer free would July 7th 2025 I thank God everyday a lot of times when I think about it I cry because when I went back to my doctor's office for a checkup mind you the whole time I was there I never saw those people sitting to my left doing chemo but this particular day when I came out of her office and I saw all those people sitting there and I started crying and I said Lord that was not for me to go through and I'm so grateful to you for that thank you Lord Jesus!!!! yes it be in the back of my mind I'm wondering with it come back even though I trust God it's not that I don't have faith and that I'm having dances just that it's just something I guess everybody goes through I'm not sure but just wondering but my God has been so good to me he has blessed me immensely and I love him for it but who would I ever known that my baby brother that passed we both had cancer and I didn't know it and I even went to his doctor's appointments with him and still didn't know I had cancer at that time glory be to God... Coming up this September 6th 2025 will be 3 years of being cancer-free or shall I say being blessed and favored in the Lord praise God thank you Jesus...Amen🙏🏾
Tracey Bell. I was diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor. It was found at the end of my intestines and the beginning of my rectum. Which was causing me trouble to use the bathroom. When you hear the word cancer, your whole world changes. You start thinking the worst and that you're going to die. When I first heard that I had it I was in shock. The doctor was talking to me but I couldn't hear anything after he said I had cancer. With so many tests after test after test they finally came to a conclusion that the tumor needed to be removed. No radiation treatment!! I still lost some hair at the top because of the stress and the medication I was taking. But there is a God. And I am healed. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Tamika Marshall. In 2015, my life changed with three unexpected words: “You have cancer.” I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, and although my battle was brief, the emotional rollercoaster was real. Fear, confusion, and uncertainty tried to take over—but my faith, family, and the incredible care team at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center kept me grounded. I was blessed with a successful surgery and recovery, but I knew I couldn’t walk away unchanged. That’s when Lady T Hope Brigade was born. I took my pain and turned it into purpose—to support, love, and uplift others walking the same scary road I once did. Now, nearly a decade later, I’m still standing strong—and helping others know they don’t have to fight alone.
Adrienne Butler. As a mother and wife I try to be a beacon of strength, resilience, and selflessness. As a devoted wife and the mother of five, I have dedicated my life to ensuring that my family thrives, often at the expense of my own dreams and desires. When my husband pursued his education to become a respiratory therapist, I made the profound decision to put my own aspirations on hold. I had the potential to become a pharmacist, but I chose instead to excel as a pharmacy technician, where I’ve become known as the best in my field. My commitment to my family and my work exemplifies the essence of sacrifice and dedication. For nearly ten years, I have been courageously battling Stage 4 Uterine Cancer. Despite being told by doctors that I wouldn’t make it to the end of the year, I have defied the odds, thriving and kicking cancer's ass every step of the way. My journey has not only been a testament to my strength but also an inspiration to those around me. I continue to attend doctor visits, manage my health, and care for my family, all while providing encouragement and support to others facing similar struggles. I go above and beyond to show gratitude to my medical providers, often bringing them thank-you goodies to express my appreciation. I serve my community and church with unwavering dedication, volunteering my time and energy to uplift others. My ability to find joy and purpose in helping those around me, even while fighting my own battle, is something I take pride in. I try to embody the spirit of resilience, love, and selflessness. I strive to be a role model not only to my children but to everyone who has the privilege of knowing me. I strive tobe resilent and exude unwavering strength in the face of adversity and my commitment to my family and community. As I continue to celebrate my journey I strive to impact all that I encounter. Instead of focusing solely on myself and the type of cancer that I struggle with, I have a desire to do a Not All Cancer is Pink; All Cancers Matter Cancer Walk every February. This February will mark the third year that my nonprofit, Boogie Down Ministries, has executed this vision.
